Super Cookies!

I got an instant message from a friend who needed some super hero cookies for her son's 4th birthday party. The birthday was about a week away, and I knew there wasn't much time to lose in making these treats.  I was a little hesitant because I didn't have any of the proper cookie cutters, but she said it could be anything.  So, I figured if I stuck to the Superman symbol, Batman symbol and Spiderman I could make it work.

First things first!  I covered the cookies with the background color for the symbols. I forgot to take a picture of the red cookies, but you get the idea.

 As you can see in the picture above I decided to do Spiderman head cookies as well as little spider web cookies.  Mainly because I didn't think the heads were a big enough cookie on their own and it was the only size I had in that shape cutter.

I made the Spiderman cookies first.  I had no idea how they were going to turn out and at the early stages my brother said they looked like aliens.

I think in the end they looked more like Spiderman than an alien head.  The little spider and web cookie also helped.

I was a bit nervous about making the symbols.  I was trying to think of the easiest and most efficient way to do it.  I wanted to just print out the images, but I don't have a printer.  The place that usually prints out my images won't print out copy written material.  So there went that plan.  Also tracing the image onto the cookie would work as well, but I don't have a projector.  I had to get down and dirty.

I printed our a bunch of the symbols and proceeded to trace the images with the icing.  This is a tedious process and a nerve racking one.  I always make more than I need because these transfers are very delicate and can break VERY easily.

 Now that all the symbols were traced I had to wait at least 24 hours to make sure they were dry.  If you do it too early you can say goodbye to all of your hard work.

I very carefully peeled off each symbol and placed it on it's back.

 I then added icing to adhere it to the cookie.

I flipped the symbol over and placed it gently onto the cookie.

You have to make sure you don't press too hard or you can crack the transfer.  The cookie isn't as flat as the transfer is, so you can't force it.

I added the finishing touches to the Batman cookies and then they were all completed!!

I am always nervous about my cookies breaking until they are delivered to the customer.  These made it safe and sound!
